Driver's Education

PCHS provides the behind the wheel phase of the North Carolina Driver Education Program. NC requires students under 18 to complete Driver Education before earning a Learners Permit. 
PCHS Teachers: John Paul McIntyre & Deanna Durham are contracted by the State through Mountain Professionals Inc.
  • $50 fee charged as of July 1, 2012. 
  • Students must be between the ages of 14 1/2 - 18.
  • Students must be currently enrolled in public, private or home school.
  • Students must pass 3 out of 4 classes during 1st Semester.
Students are encouraged to take the Online Class through WRESA.org.
After completing the online class, students will complete behind the wheel training at PCHS.
Driver’s Ed Online

This course will cover the state and national standards required for drivers’ education.  The instructor will monitor progress and be available to assist with questions.  The course will be self-paced, but must be completed within the four week window.  Successful completion of the course requirements will result in the student receiving the paperwork necessary for the driving portion of drivers’ education.  This paperwork can be presented to the local school contact or appropriate private contact.

Students must be in grades 9-12 and 14.5 years of age before enrolling in this course. The student will receive access to the course within 2-5 business days.  The cost for the course is $60, and payments can be made through PayPal.  This course is open to students in the WRESA service area.  This includes the following counties: Buncombe, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, and Yancey.
